Opis stanowiska

The AMC VIBRO and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST), Faculty of Geoengineering Mining and Geology, Digital Mining Center Research Group (DMC) is searching for a PhD candidate to join its team and to take up a H2020 Marie Sklodowska Curie ESR fellowship within the MOIRA ITN project.

Title of the task: „Heterogeneous data fusion for monitoring of mines using robotic devices”.

Oferta

Zadania:

  • The PhD candidate will work methodologies to fuse and exploit information extracted from heterogeneous data, including vibration, temperature, images, sound and local environmental parameters, captured by inspection robots, for monitoring and diagnosis of machines and infrastructure (electric cables, pipelines, structures) used in deep mines. Due to the harsh environment and natural hazards (gas & rock outbursts, seismic risk), the future of mining is related to introducing fully automated machinery and robotic inspection systems in order to minimize risk for humans. The development of mining inspection robots equipped with various types of sensors including microphones, accelerometers, temperature/humidity/gas sensors and cameras will provide a massive and heterogeneous amount of data gathered under harsh mining conditions. The PhD candidate will develop new techniques for multidimensional Big Data analysis in order to extract and exploit valuable information from multisensory noisy data. The final aim of the PhD candidate will be the development of a toolbox which will include algorithms for automatic data validation, data denoising, data segmentation and data/information fusion, which will be used for the understanding of mining inspection data.
  • The PhD candidate will closely collaborate with members of DMC (WUST) as they have experience with the problem and appropriate data and record of publications.
  • The research is hosted by the AMC VIBRO. The AMC VIBRO is a SME company and its head, prof Tomasz Barszcz has a long track record of combining excellent fundamental academic research with industrially relevant applications, leading to dissemination in both highly ranked academic journals as well as on industrial fora. More information on the research group can be found on the website:  https://amcvibro.com/The PhD candidate will be supervised jointly by Prof. Radoslaw Zimroz and Prof. Tomasz Barszcz.

The PhD candidate will be part of international team in WorkPackage 1 ?Information Extraction from Heterogeneous Data? (WP1) led by KU Leuven. The PhD Candidate will have also industrial supervisor (prof Tomasz Barszcz) and secondment supervisor (Prof. Joachim Bös  from Technische Universität Darmstadt and Prof. Thilo Bein From Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft Zur Foerderung Der Angewandten Forschung E.V).

Wymagania:

If you recognize yourself in the story below, then you have the profile that fits the project and the research group.

  • I have a master degree in engineering, physics or mathematics.
  • I am Early Stage Researcher (ESR), i.e. a person who has not been involved in research for more than 4 years (full-time equivalent) starting to count the date this person graduates his/her first MSc degree.
  • I am mobile, i.e. I have not been in Poland for more than 12 months in the past 3 years immediately before the date of recruitment.
  • I am proficient in written and spoken English.
  • During my courses or prior professional activities, I have gathered experience with signal processing, machine condition monitoring systems, automation and control, mobile robotics, machine dynamics and design, vibrations, acoustics and I have a profound interest in these topics.
  • As PhD researcher of the WUST DMC Research Group/ AMC VIBRO, I perform research in a structured and scientifically sound manner. I read technical papers, understand the nuances between different theories and implement and improve methodologies myself.
  • I work goal-oriented and have a getting-things-done attitude, always with scientific rigour.
  • In frequent reporting, varying between weekly to monthly, I show the results that I have obtained and I give a well-founded interpretation of those results. I iterate on my work and my approach based on the feedback of my supervisors which steer the direction of my research.
  • I feel comfortable to work as a team member and I am eager to share my results to inspire and being inspired by my colleagues.
  • I value being part of a large research group which is well connected to the machine and transportation industry and I am eager to learn how academic research can be linked to industrial innovation roadmaps.
  • During my PhD, I want to grow towards following up the project that I am involved in and representing the research group on project meetings or conferences. I see these events as an occasion to disseminate my work to an audience of international experts and research colleagues, and to learn about the larger context of my research and the research project.
